South - Rates Assistance to Community Groups in Manukau

Submissions closed at 5:00PM 28 February 2014 (NZDT).

Criteria

This fund provides annual grants to sports clubs, community groups and not-for-profit organisations to assist with the rates levied on properties they own in the former Manukau City Council area.

Who can apply?

Applications can be made by not-for-profit community groups that:

  • own rateable land in Manukau, and
  • provide programmes and services that benefit residents of the Howick, Māngere-Ōtāhuhu, Manurewa or Ōtara-Papatoetoe local board areas.

Note: Property owned by sports clubs that are entitled to assistance under the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 (i.e. those not holding a liquor licence) are not eligible for assistance from this fund.

Groups requesting more than $3000 must have legal status (i.e. be an incorporated society or registered charitable trust) or apply under the umbrella of an organisation that does.

Fund size

Assistance will be given to organisations to assist with land rating costs levied for that financial year. Grants can be used toward the General Rate and Uniform Annual General Charge portions of the annual rate levy, up to a maximum of 50 per cent.

Other charges associated with occupation of the land – such as supply of fresh water, effuse/recycling or wastewater – are excluded from this assistance policy.

When funding is available

There will be one funding round for 2013/2014 for the Rates Assistance Fund. The funding round will close on 28 February 2014.
