Residency Details
Studio One Toi Tū is now accepting applications for the 2026 Emerging Artists Residency
Programme, an outcomes-focused residency supporting early-career emerging
contemporary visual artists/collectives to realise their next significant project or create a
new body of work.
Recipients will receive six months of dedicated studio space at Studio One Toi Tū from
November 2026 to April 2027, including 24-hour access to facilities, kiln and ceramic
facilities, and general workshop tools. An end of residency exhibition will take place from
17 May – 5 June 2027. (Including install and deinstall)
Successful residents will also receive:
• $2,000 stipend
• $500 materials and printing budget
• $500 voucher for Studio One Toi Tū workshops
• Professional development mentoring sessions with an established artist/
arts professional of the artists’ choice
• Funding guidance
• Professional Development with Tanker Creative must be available Feb 9 - 12 2027
• Networking and community engagement opportunities
• End-of-residency exhibition support
Studio One Toi Tū will select 2 residency recipients (one per stream):
Stream 1: Ceramics & Sculpture Residency - Focus on three-dimensional practices
including ceramics, sculpture, installation, and mixed media works.
Stream 2: Visual Arts (General) Residency - Open to all contemporary visual arts
practices including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, video, digital arts, and
interdisciplinary approaches.
Please note all applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and be
committed to the full residency duration, including the end of residency exhibition. For artist
collectives – one nominated person is required as the primary contact.
An information evening with a site visit of the studio spaces will take place on Wednesday
12 August 6:30-7:30pm at Studio One Toi Tū. All welcome.
