North - Large Grants Fund (Community), 2014/2015

Criteria

This fund provides contestable grants to community organisations that provide a comprehensive range of services and operate within the Rodney Local Board Area, or the Hibiscus Coast Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board.

The level of funding available through these funds has been determined by the Council through the 2014/15 Annual Plan process. The grants offer substantial levels of funding and can be used for capital costs, project funding, or operational costs. Each fund isaligned with the Community Support Grants Policy, the objectives of which are to:

  • ensure a wide range of community activities, projects, programmes and events are supported;
  • encourage innovative community programmes and initiatives;
  • encourage volunteers to organise and participate in community activities; or
  • increase the capacity of local community groups.

Who can apply?

Any community group undertaking a project within the Rodney Local Board Area, or the Hibiscus Coast Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board can apply for funds.

Groups that do not have legal status (i.e. are an incorporated society or registered charitable trust) must apply under the umbrella of an organisation that does.

Projects will be assessed on the strength of their alignment with the following outcomes:

  • supporting local employment
  • providing post-secondary training and education
  • encouraging creativity and diversity
  • supporting community events
  • providing cultural facilities and activities
  • encouraging a sense of community identity
  • fostering pride in the look and feel of areas
  • promoting access to primary health services
  • encouraging communities and neighbourhoods to feel safe
  • facilitating access to community support networks
  • encouraging increased participation by volunteers
  • valuing, protecting and enjoying our natural environment
  • promoting waste minimisation
  • affordable and appropriate housing
  • family violence prevention
  • older adults’ participation and wellbeing
  • sustainable development – “Connected Communities”
  • strengthening the community services currently provided by your organisation
  • encouraging your organisation’s strategic and long term planning
  • enhanced delivery of community benefits that are freely accessible
  • encouraging innovative approaches to address identified community needs

When funding is available

This is the only funding round for 2014/2015. It opened on 1 June and will close on 15 July 2014, 5pm.

Fund guidelines

The expected benefits of council providing large grants to community groups and service providers include:

  • encouraging and strengthening existing community groups and organisations
  • encouraging more strategic and long term focused planning
  • encouraging innovative approaches to addressing identified needs
  • strengthening of the relationship between the Council and the local community providers.
