Call for Proposals 2027 Nathan Homestead Pukepuke, Manurewa

Nathan Homestead Pukepuke is an iconic and treasured community place in Manurewa where people create, celebrate, and connect, while surrounded by nature and history. The historic homestead and grounds host exhibitions, creative activities, and community events.
Inside Nathan Homestead Pukepuke's two first floor exhibition spaces can be used separately or together and are supported by an installation team. Your project would be included in Nathan Homestead’s quarterly programme. Exhibitions receive additional marketing support including printed promotional postcards.
Additional pop-up display spaces are available in the sitting room and main foyer, both conveniently located on the ground floor of the building. The gardens of David Nathan Park including the water tower and native bush walk, are also available for temporary outdoor pop-up projects and events.
We are calling for creative projects from groups, collectives or individuals interested in exhibiting and/or creating unique projects, programmes, or events at the Arts Centre to be held during the year 2027 (January – December).
Nathan Homestead Pukepuke has limited financial resources and projects requiring funding should apply for grants through Auckland Council, CNZ or The Ministry of Culture and Heritage.

Project criteria
Preference is given to:
• Artists from the Manurewa local board area and the wider Auckland region
• Projects supporting or aligning with one or more of the selected objectives in the David Nathan Park and Homestead Business Plan 2017-2027:
To create an inviting, inclusive, and enjoyable place for local people of all ages
To increase the local communities’ access to and participation in community events and creative activities, with a specific focus on families and young people
To promote Nathan Homestead as a place for local people and in the future, an outstanding destination in south Auckland
To conserve the heritage building and heritage and cultural site features, and start telling the story of the site and its people
To support improved connectivity with the Auckland Botanic Gardens, other local parks, and the Manurewa Town Centre
In addition, priority will be given to:
• Group projects
• Projects with strong public programmes or workshops
• Projects that represent and recognise te Tiriti of Waitangi. Auckland Council recognises te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi as a foundational document on which local government in Auckland works to deliver Māori aspirations. We recognise that Auckland’s Māori identity is its unique point of difference in the world and celebrate Māori culture and te reo Māori
• Applicants who whakapapa to any of the 19 iwi of Tāmaki Makaurau
• Projects that align with key regional festivals and culturally significant celebrations. For example, but not limited to: Pride Festival, Matariki Festival, World of Cultures, Diwali Festival.
If your project recognises the Matariki season or any other significant date, please indicate this in your proposal.

Key dates and notification of outcome
The call for proposals open on Wednesday 1 July 2026 and close on Wednesday 12 August 2026
The outcome of proposals will be notified by Friday 10 September 2026. If your proposal is successful, you will be invited to an initial meeting to discuss project scope, installation details, project dates, and marketing information. The overall budget, accompanying public programme and associated resources required will also be discussed at this time.

Proposal Guidelines

For this application process, please submit two pdf documents using the guidlines provided

Document 1: Proposal Document (PDF)

  1. Project / Exhibition Title
    Title of the proposed project or exhibition.
  2. Statement of Intent (200–250 words)
    Outline the proposed project or exhibition, including key ideas, themes, or concepts; how the project responds to community, place, or context; why it is timely and relevant; and intended outcomes for audiences.
  3. Public Programmes and Engagement (up to 250 words)
    Outline any proposed public programmes or engagement activities (e.g. artist talks, workshops, performances, education or community‑focused activities). Projects with strong public programmes may be given priority.
  4. Artist / Curator Biography (max 150 words per person)
    Short biography for each artist, curator, or key contributor, including practice focus, cultural positioning (optional), location, and relevant experience.
  5. CV / Track Record (max 2 pages)
    A selected track record demonstrating capacity to deliver the project (e.g. exhibitions, commissions, residencies, public programmes, grants, or awards). Full CVs not required.
