North - Large Grants Fund (Youth), 2014/2015
Criteria
This fund provides contestable grants to youth service providers that offer a range of services and operate within the following local board areas:
- Rodney or the
- Hibiscus Coast Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board.
The level of funding available through these funds has been determined by the Council through the 2012/13 Annual Plan process.
The grants offer substantial levels of funding and can be used for capital costs, project funding, or operational costs. This fund is aligned with the Community Support Grants Policy, the objectives of which are to:
- ensure a wide range of community activities, projects, programmes and events are supported;
- encourage innovative community programmes and initiatives;
- encourage volunteers to organise and participate in community activities; or
- increase the capacity of local community groups.
Who can apply?
Any community group undertaking a project within the Rodney Local Board area, or the Hibiscus Coast Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board can apply for funds for the benefit of these communities.
Groups that do not have legal status (i.e. are an incorporated society or registered charitable trust) must apply under the umbrella of an organisation that does.
For the purposes of the Large Grants Youth Fund, Youth are people aged between 12 and 24.
Projects will be assessed on the strength of their alignment with the following outcomes:
- increased participation by youth in influencing the future shaping of their community
- access to safe social environments, activities and places to hang out
- the ability to travel around the district safely
- the ability to access and protect the natural environment
- access to education, employment, career and other opportunities and services
- a reduction in youth crime and association with gangs, drugs and alcohol
- promotion of healthy lifestyles and access to primary health services
- access to Iwi support including Rangatahi and Whanau support networks
- strengthening the youth services currently provided by your organisation
- encouraging your organisation’s strategic and long term planning
- enhanced delivery of services that are freely accessible to youth and benefit the community
- encouraging innovative approaches to address identified community needs
When funding is available
This is the only funding round for 2013/2014. It opened on 1 June and will close on 12 August 2013.

The expected benefits of the council providing large grants to youth service providers include:
- increased participation by youth in influencing the future shaping of their community
- access to safe social environments, activities and places to hang out
- the ability to travel around the district safely
- the ability to access and protect the natural environment
- access to education, employment, career opportunities and services for young people
- a reduction in youth crime and association with gangs, drugs and alcohol
- promotion of healthy lifestyles and access to primary health services
- access to Iwi support including Rangatahi and Whanau support networks
- encouraging and strengthening existing youth service providers
- encouraging more strategic and long term focused planning
- encouraging innovative approaches to addressing identified needs
- strengthening of the relationship between council and the key local youth service providers.
