North - Large Grants Fund (Recreation), 2014/2015

Criteria

This fund provides contestable grants to sports and recreational groups that provide a comprehensive range of services and operate within the following local board areas:

  • Rodney or the
  • Hibiscus Coast Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board

This fund provides contestable grants to sports and recreational groups that provide a comprehensive range of services and operate on a local or district-wide level. The grant can be used for small capital purchases, project funding or operational costs. It is not intended that this fund would be used to finance capital works projects such as building projects or the development of fields or courts.

The level of funding available through these funds has been determined by the Council through the 2012/13 Annual Plan process.

The grants offer substantial levels of funding and can be used for capital costs, project funding, or operational costs. Each fund is aligned with the Community Support Grants Policy, the objectives of which are to:

  • ensure a wide range of community activities, projects, programmes and events are supported;
  • encourage innovative community programmes and initiatives;
  • encourage volunteers to organise and participate in community activities; or
  • increase the capacity of local community groups.

Who can apply?

Any community group undertaking a project within the above local board areas. Schools based within the above areas that intend to deliver sports and recreational programmes can also apply.

Groups that do not have legal status (i.e. are an incorporated society or registered charitable trust) must apply under the umbrella of an organisation that does.

Projects will be assessed on the strength of their alignment with the following outcomes:

  • encouraging community engagement and promoting healthy lifestyles through participation in sport and physical recreation activities
  • encouraging strategic collaborative planning for the promotion of sport and physical recreation
  • maximising and promoting the use of Council’s parks and reserves
  • promoting accessibility and community use of recreational facilities
  • supporting a diverse range of activities and promoting volunteering and social investment
  • strengthening the community services currently provided by your organisation
  • encouraging your organisation’s strategic and long term planning
  • enhanced delivery of community benefits that are freely accessible
  • encouraging innovative approaches to address identified community needs

When funding is available

This is the only funding round for 2013/2014. It opened on 1 June and will close on 12 August 2013.

Although this funding can be used to purchase equipment, it is not intended to finance capital works projects such as building projects or the development of fields or courts.
