The Henderson Massey Local Board recognises the vital role that community groups and organisations play in developing diverse, strong, inclusive, connected and sustainable communities. We will encourage efforts that give effect to the priorities in our Local Board Plan – such as environmental, cultural, arts, community development, recreational and heritage initiatives, and supporting our youth and Maori.

Through community grants the Henderson-Massey Local Board aims to build social capital within the local community by supporting projects that provide a community benefit, are equitable and inclusive and result in an ongoing gain to the local area Henderson-Massey Local Board will generally give grants of between $200 and $5,000 due to the Board’s desire to distribute these funds widely in the community. Due consideration will be given to those who are legally constituted or who are using one of those as an umbrella group, noting that this does not rule out other groups.

The Board, in coming to its decision, will consider the following factors:

  • The benefit of your proposal to the local area
  • Your group’s role in the local area
  • The alignment of your proposal with the priorities of the Board, such as:
  • young people
  • Maori
  • the environment
  • culture and arts
  • social cohesion
  • recreation and sport
  • heritage
  • Whether your group applies to receive the proceeds of gaming machines.
