Welcome - CultureFest Cultural Zones 2027

Important information

We are excited to continue with our updated structure for the Cultural Zones within CultureFest for 2027.

In order to allow the Cultural Zones to grow, and to emphasise them as one of the main activations within the event, we are offering a grant to support you in creating your Cultural Zone.

We want the event to have a refresh, and to feel new and exciting. One of the ways that we can do that is to support you in developing and creating your Cultural Zones, as so many of you have contributed to the event over the years.

There are now two options for sizing and grants.
A 6x5 Marquee will receive a grant of: $1500.00

A 6x3 Marquee will receive a grant of: $500.00

Please note that this programme has received a lot of interest, and we want to ensure that each culture is given a turn to showcase. If this means that your culture is not chosen this year, please do not be discouraged from applying again next year - and we have different options available for you to still take part within the event this year.

CultureFest will provide a free 6x6m marquee OR 6x3 marquee to groups who want to provide cultural experiences to our attendees.

Your Cultural Zone must include:

  • Full-day programming 11am-5pm (performances, activities, ceremonies, crafts, workshops etc). Mihi Whakatau (official opening) starts at 10:30 am
  • Activities for women, men and children (if genders need to be separated, please explain how you will do this and still cater for all).
  • A space that is vibrantly presented to a high standard, that is culturally authentic and welcoming to all.
  • Your Cultural Zone must be staffed for the entirety of the day.
  • Programming that includes interactive experiences where participants learn about your culture(s). Programming includes performances, activities, ceremonies, crafts, workshops etc. Examples:
    • Japanese Tea Ceremony - Take part in a traditional Japanese tea-drinking ceremony
    • Balinese Gamelan Workshop – Learn how to play the Balinese gamelan in this 30-minute workshop
    • Argentinean Tango Performance – Learn a professional Argentinian Tango
    • Batik workshop - learn the art of Batik

You will be asked to upload an image of your Cultural Zone design. This can be as simple as a picture of a drawing on paper! We just need an indication of what you plan on creating. This application will take up to ten minutes to complete.
