Auckland Council Storm Recovery Community Grants

Auckland Council recovery response

What is the Storm Recovery Community Grants? Community Grants are for resident and community groups to apply for up to $10,000 to support them to connect NOW, plan for the FUTURE, and provide the means for HOW  to continue their Recovery.

This fund is only to support Residents’ groups in areas impacted by the significant weather events in 2023. Please download the guidelines here (link to the attached guidelines)

Who is able to apply to the fund? This storm recovery community grant is open to all residents’ groups to apply for.

How long will the fund remain open? Applications will be accepted until 5pm 11th December.

How will the decisions be made? Delegates from the Community & Social Recovery Whenu lead team, within the Tāmaki Makaurau Recovery Office will assess all eligible applications. Evaluation will be based on community reach, capacity to undertake the steps to recovery and activities to be undertaken.

What will be funded?

The Tāmaki Makaurau Recovery Office would like to provide this funding to support resident groups to plan for recovery relevant to your members. The needs of residents’ groups will differ depending on where they are on the establishment journey. For those just starting out, you may need support to grow membership, setup systems to connect and possibly organise activities to meet and greet and understand what recovery looks like for you. Others may be ready to consider getting incorporated to enable funding to be applied for and a longer-term setup.

This fund is designed to support you through wherever you are on this journey. Potential areas the fund might be used for:

  • pay a coordinator to create regular meetings, updates and deliver activities to inform what recovery is for your members
  • Contract a specialist facilitator to workshop how your group, or groups in your community, can work together to create a plan for recovery
  • Access basic administration support such as equipment to support the group such as a laptop, dictaphone, access to newsletter software, social media training
  • Support to plan, deliver and put on regular connection activities including street chats, barbeques, etc

These grants are not intended for:

  • Individual homes
  • Rebuilds, repairs or adaptations
  • Not for resilience/preparedness or response plans
  • Natural and built environment initiatives or projects

How will payment be made?

Funding will be paid to an incorporated society or charitable trust only. Please see the guidelines for more details
